David Leonard is a talented illustrator, artist, and designer. His website for David Leonard Illustration needed an update from its old website that used tables for layouts and Flash.
It needed both a new look and a content management system to make adding new content easy. WordPress was the best choice for their needs!
Project Highlights
Custom Theme
A custom theme was needed for the new design. To jumpstart the theme creation, a free empty starter theme was used as the base, and all the design customization was built on top of it.
Custom Galleries
The design called for several pages that served as galleries. The design of the galleries could not be met by available WordPress gallery plugins, so a custom one was made. In the admin side, a custom post type was made, with a custom meta box to manage the items in the gallery. It lets users easily add, edit, rearrange, and delete items from the gallery. The front end of the galleries was custom-made as well using template files to match the design.
Blog page
The site also needed a blog page style to match the rest of the design.
Custom Theme Settings
Lastly, the theme needed an options page for changing settings such as the site logo and the items on the homepage. A custom admin page was made to make changing those items easy – it’s much easier for users rather than having to figure out HTML or risk destroying the design by using the default WordPress WYSIWYG editor.
